CRU Staff

David and Sarah Henderson

David is the Missional Team Leader for Vanderbilt Cru.  This is his eighth year on staff, six of which were spent at the University of South Carolina.  He and Sarah met in Columbia, SC and were married in 2008.  Sarah joined staff in May of 2008.  They have one child named Caleb.  Together they love the beach, the mountains, and any beautiful setting where they can rest together.  David loves playing golf and is a lifelong Vandy fan who enjoys cheering on his beloved Dores in any sport.  Sarah enjoys cooking and running.  Caleb loves to come to Cru events as often as he can!

I love being on Cru staff at my alma mater! After I graduated from Vandy in the 90s, I worked with Cru at UNC-Chapel Hill for a few years and then returned to my native Tennessee. I grew up in a small town in East Tennessee and love the natural beauty of this part of the country!

I married my husband Marten in October 2010. He’s Canadian, so I’m teaching him about grits and humidity and he’s teaching me about ice hockey and curling (we occasionally play hockey in the basement with a tennis ball).

I love the outdoors and hiking and canoeing and mountains and dark chocolate. When I am outside, I come alive! I also love walking alongside college students during this incredible season of life – helping them discover and uncover who God has made them to be and see how they fit into His Story. (And I learn a ton along the way!) I love learning to follow Jesus and wrestling over real life issues in the midst of an authentic community.

I’ve been on staff with Cru at Vanderbilt for 10 glorious years!  What can I say?  I LOVE to hang out with college students.  I spent my undergrad years at the lovely University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and discovered there the importance of real, deep, and authentic relationships – with God, myself, and others.  My college years fueled in me a desire for other students to have the same experience I did.  So, for the past 10 years I have had the privilege of meeting with students, preferably over a cup of coffee at Starbucks – and talk about life, Jesus, and/or whatever is real and significant to them at that moment. When I’m not working with students, I’m hanging out with my 3 favorite men – my husband Joe of 7 years, and my 2 sons – Trey (3 1/2) and Tyler (2). They are a joy and blessing!

Ashley Jacobs

I graduated from Vandy in 2005 and have been on staff with Cru ever since!  I am originally from a small town in Kentucky (Hopkinsville) but find that I am much more of a city girl at heart.  I love living in Nashville with my husband, Mikael, and you can often find us cheering on the Dores at football and basketball games.  I also love to run/play almost any sport, read, explore new places, interact with other cultures, and spend quality time with friends and family.

I'm only ankle deep in Nashville, but I really love it here! I grew up in the Maryland suburbs, between Annapolis and Washington, DC. For college, I bounced around between Virginia Tech, community college, Venezuela, and finally graduated from Radford University in Virginia in 2011. I had grown up very familiar with Christianity, but it was through these years of adventure in college that God really awoke my heart to His realness and His heights and depths. My only boast is the divinity, life, and death of Jesus Christ, and I am thrilled to be able to devote myself to sharing His goodness with college students at Vanderbilt! I studied Spanish and International Studies and really enjoy all things different, cultural, and international. I also really enjoy getting to know a lot of the local indie music here in Nashville.
